| Host / Isotype: Polyclonal | Background Information: Sm-like proteins were identified in a variety of organisms based on sequence homology with the Sm protein family. Sm-like proteins contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of 2 regions separated by a linker of variable length that folds as a loop. The Sm-like proteins are thought to form a stable heteromer present in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing (PMID:15075370). Lsm2-Lsm8 (Lsm stands for Like Sm), binds and stabilizes the 3′ end of the spliceosomal U6 snRNA Lsm proteins facilitate the annealing of U6 snRNA with U4 snRNA in vitro and interact with the U4/U6 annealing factor Prp24, suggesting that Lsm proteins function in U4/U6 snRNP formation in vivo (PMID:15485930, 17251193). |
